Samoan lock Felipo Levi recruited by Makos
Western Samoa and former Highlanders lock Filipo Levi has been drafted into the Tasman Makos squad as temporary injury cover.
Makos coach Kieran Keane announced the move yesterday, citing the squad being down to just two fit locks with Joe Wheeler and Ben Coman out of contention for selection this week.
Wheeler damaged a knee during Sunday's clash against Counties Manukau and is out for at least eight days and Coman, who is yet to play in the ITM Cup this year, won't be fit for at least two more weeks, Keane said.
Pablo Heuete and Riki Hoeata are the only two fit locks and Keane said that having Levi was a big boost to the squad, bringing ability and experience.
"We needed a power lock in the short term and we are lucky to get him.
"He's as keen as mustard and it's good for him to get game time before the World Cup.
"He's a player that can add a bit of steel to our forward pack."
Levi has been playing in Europe and was part of the Samoan team which beat Australia earlier this month.
Keane said he expected him to play at least three or four matches for the Makos, depending on when Wheeler and Coman were fit to play again.
