Golden Edge and SBS Bank renew sponsorship through 2013

Two companies have continued to show confidence in the Tasman Rugby Union and the Makos by extending their sponsorship deals for another two years.

Nelson Pine Industries (NPI) has had a long association with Nelson Bays rugby and was the foundation major sponsor of the Tasman Makos, becoming principal sponsor in 2010 through their Golden Edge brand.

"We continue supporting all sport in the Nelson region, as well as education and art," NPI managing director Murray Sturgeon said.

"We've been a 25-year sponsor of rugby in the region, and been a major sponsor of the Makos since its inception five years ago."

SBS Bank was the inaugural principal sponsor from 2006 to 2009 and became major sponsor in 2010.

SBS Bank Nelson branch manager Matt Isbister said: "The Makos mean a lot to Nelson and have done so for quite a few years now, so we thought it was important to keep supporting them."

Andrew Flexman, new chief executive of the Tasman Rugby Union, said the deals were a wonderful vote of confidence in the future of the union, and the Makos.

"Having these two fine companies continue as principal and major sponsors is an excellent endorsement of the union's performance, and encouraging to all our supporting and potential sponsors."

Rosco Contractors will continue as the team's sleeve sponsor, and the Makos are still on the hunt for a collar sponsor.
