New lineup as Makos face Turbos [Fairfax]

Another piece of the Tasman Makos' pre-season puzzle falls into place tomorrow when they play the Manawatu Turbos in their final warmup match at Trafalgar Park, in Nelson.

Several players not involved in the recent two-match southern tour, notably three of the four Chiefs Super 15 players, will get their first run for Tasman this season.

James Lowe has been selected to start at fullback, with Tom Marshall at No 12 and Tevita Koloamatangi at openside flanker.

Non-squad members, lock Tom Hicks and halfback Shawn Begg, have been included as cover, Hicks selected in Joe Wheeler's absence and Begg as back up for Billy Guyton who is injured.

Loose forwards Shane Christie and Liam Squire were not considered for selection due to their recent All Blacks involvement, while Crusaders squad members Kieron Fonotia and Tim Perry are also having a break after their Super 15 campaign.

Marty Banks is still recovering from a knee injury sustained in the Nelson Bays club final, with the experienced Robbie Malneek due to start at No 10 in his absence. New boy David Havili will start at centre.

Tasman head coach Kieran Keane said the goals for tomorrow's game were clear.

"We have been working for the last two weeks on two things, on our attack and our defence," Keane said.

"Those remain our focus. Our set piece has been pretty sound, we're pretty happy with how we're tracking there, so what we're looking for is our attack shape and our defensive systems. We want to step up in both those areas and feel comfortable that players have clarity around their roles. It's quite simple."

The Manawatu squad have been in Nelson since Sunday as part of their pre-season buildup.

Tomorrow's curtainraiser is the Crusaders region Press Cup secondary schools final round clash between Nelson College and Waimea College scheduled to kick off at 3.40pm. The main game kicks off at 5.30pm.
