Geldenhuys set to be a Highlander [Fairfax]
The Tasman Makos' contribution to Super Rugby's player ranks continues to grow after prop Ross Geldenhuys was yesterday confirmed as one of seven new Highlanders' signings.
The 1.89m-tall, 120kg tighthead specialist has been picked up by the Highlanders for next year's Super 15 campaign following some solid performances for Tasman in this year's ITM Cup competition.
South African-born Geldenhuys isn't new to Super Rugby, having already achieved 19 caps for the Johannesburg-based Lions, and next year will join Hawke's Bay hooker Ash Dixon and prop Brendon Edmonds, Wellington lock Mark Reddish, Bay of Plenty prop Pingi Tala'apitaga, Waikato front rower Josh Hohneck and Northland flanker Dan Pryor at the southern franchise.
Geldenhuys, 31, has so far played seven games in his debut season with the Makos and scored a critical late try in last Sunday's win over Otago at Trafalgar Park.
Highlanders coach Jamie Joseph said the team's forward resources were tested by injuries and suspensions this year.
"One of the learnings that came out of last season was the pressure we received at setpiece in the final stages of the competition. We have selected players with that in mind and who we think can improve our team in that area," he said
