Humming Heem on Chiefs' roster
Tasman Makos winger Bryce Heem's stellar ITM Cup season has just been rewarded with a Chiefs' Super Rugby contract.
New Zealand sevens player Heem and Auckland loose forward Sean Polwart have been signed by the Chiefs, with Heem joining several of his Tasman team-mates at the franchise for the 2015 season.
Chiefs coach Dave Rennie has been impressed by the wing's workrate off the ball.
"Bryce has been knocking on the door for Super Rugby for a while," Rennie said. "He has had an impressive ITM Cup season with Tasman and his size, pace and skill-set are very appealing to us."
Heem, 25, is thrilled to get his break at this level, especially at the Chiefs, who have won two of the past three titles.
"From the success the Chiefs have had and from what the Tasman players have said, it appears that the Chiefs is a very good set-up that would suit my personality," Heem said.
Pukekohe-born Polwart, 24, links up again with Rennie after being part of his New Zealand under-20 side that won the world title in 2010.
"Sean is a top young man who has been strong for Auckland this season. We were impressed with Sean when he spent some time with us earlier this year. He has a huge work ethic, is great post tackle and compliments our loose forwards perfectly," Rennie said.
