CarCo the Mako says

Hi Makos FINatics.

Last Thursday night our Mighty Makos got their season back on track with a spirited victory over last season’s Premiers, Taranaki by 35 – 17.

Tasman will now play second seeded Auckland in a Premiership Semi-Final at Eden Park this Friday night at 7.35pm. Tickets are on sale through Ticketmaster. Seating is general admission North Stand only, with Adults $20 and Children (13yrs and under) $5.

As for Thursday’s match, head coach Kieran Keane was delighted with his side's performance in the latter stages of the game. "You wouldn't have thought at half time that we were going to put the foot on the throttle, but our composure and resilience came to the fore. In spite of some of the things that went against us, we finished really well." He said.

FINAL WHISTLE: Tasman 35 (Quentin MacDonald, Vernon Fredericks, Liam Squire, Kieron Fonotia tries, David Havili 3 con, pen, Trent Renata 2 pen) v Taranaki 17 (Jackson Ormond, Berny Hall tries, Codey Rei con, Charlie Ngatai pen, Liam McBride con) Ht 3-7.

To secure a home semi-final required Counties – Manukau to beat Auckland at Pukekohe. After 40 minutes Counties were ahead, but a determined Auckland second half, spear headed ironically by a hat trick of tries to last year Makos winger Bryce Heem, secured them the win and a home semi hosting the Makos this Friday night.

The regular season ended with Tasman winning 7 matches, losing 3 and earning 35 Premiership points. Finishing third in our second season in the Premiership is a tremendous outcome for all involved – the players, coaches, support team – and for our great Makos fans.

Blindside flanker Vernon Fredericks was by his fellow players and team management as the Mondo Travel I Air France Makoman for his great abrasive effort despite a badly broken nose in just the 20th minute. His try was a great demonstration of strength in the tackle and good reward. He was also earned the teams Ironman award for his defence.
