Tasman Makos back Kieron Fonotia is in his fifth season with the team and brought up his 50+ game blazer in 2015.

He brings an X-factor to the Makos and Crusaders backline with his size, power and versatility. Kieron debuted for the Crusaders in 2014.

Where did you start playing rugby and what got you into the game?

I actually started in New Brighton aged 4 I sort of got into it as the whole family was involved with the game.

You are originally from Christchurch. What is it like playing against them?

I always get motivated to play well against them as they didn't want or rate me when I was younger so I like to try and prove them wrong.

What brought you to play for the Makos?

Opportunities really. I came as I wanted to play NPC rugby.

What do you enjoy doing outside of rugby?

I love playing golf and also having coffee with my mates.

You have achieved the 50+ game blazer for the Makos. What does that mean to you?

I was really chuffed to get to that milestone. It seems a while ago now that I was suiting up for the Makos for the first time, so to get to 50 games was a pretty rewarding feeling.

Do you have any pre-game routines or rituals?

I always eat chicken and potatoes, then I always put my left sock and boots on first.

What is it about the game that you enjoy the most?

On the field I like running with the ball in hand and the physical side of things. Off the field I love yakking with the lads in the sheds after a hard-fought match.

How do you feel the team played in the game against Waikato on Sunday, and what would you like to improve on yourself?

It was really good to get the win - I suppose it was a gutsy performance. There are always things you want to improve on so let's hope this weekend we can go really well.

You are heading over to play in Wales. What do  you expect over there in terms of Northern Hemisphere rugby being different to that in the south?

I expect the style of play to be a lot more confrontational, with more play upfront in the forwards. Outside of rugby I am really looking forward to travelling and seeing some new places.
