Sione represented NZ Secondary Schools as a flanker in 2016 (winning the Golden Boot as NZ's best player), played for Auckland in 2017 and made one appearance for the Blues in 2018.

He made his Mako debut in 2018 and started in the victorious 2019 NPC Premiership team, earning a contract with the Crusaders for 2020.

Sione played 11 matches in the victorious back-to-back 2020 campaign and again represented the Crusaders with distinction in 2021 and 2022. After making his Test debut for Tonga, Sione played 8 matches for the Mako in 2022.
