Rugby Foundation boss to take over the Tasman reins
New Zealand Rugby Foundation boss Andrew Flexman will replace Peter Barr as chief executive of the Tasman Rugby Union.
Tasman chairman Nick Patterson confirmed the appointment yesterday. Barr announced his resignation in October.
Flexman is currently chief executive of the NZ Rugby Foundation and has been appointed to his new role with effect from January 23 next year.
He has previously worked for various law firms, both in New Zealand and overseas, specialising in employment law and civil litigation.
Flexman has also been a director of the Chiefs Super Rugby franchise and the Counties Manukau Rugby Union.
"Andrew's experience as a director of the Chiefs franchise and the Counties Manukau Rugby Union, and his time with the Rugby Foundation, will be beneficial to the Tasman Rugby Union," said Patterson.
"He understands the issues facing provincial unions in the challenging economic times we currently face."
Flexman said he was looking forward to taking up the job and building on the great momentum created by the union in recent years.
"I have long been an admirer of Tasman rugby and am committed to ensuring that top-flight rugby stays in the region in the years ahead," he said.
"It has always produced great talent, and we need to create pathways for that talent to prosper and contribute to the strength of the New Zealand game."
