The new three-year agreement incorporates sponsorship of the Tasman Mako men and women teams, as back of jersey sponsor, and community rugby in the Region, continuing a partnership that began in 2014.

Both organisations are delighted with the opportunities the partnership has presented at a local and regional level.? NBS believes that supporting sport, cultural and recreational activities is a way of promoting a sense of pride in our communities and an attitude of success and sees the Tasman Rugby Union and the Tasman Mako as a good fit in this regard.

Tony Cadigan, NBS CEO says “Rugby in the Tasman region and the success of the Tasman Mako has galvanised the communities in which we operate. The Mako are the community’s team and as a community banking business, we enjoy our involvement at a corporate and local branch level.”

“Our decision to be a long-time sponsor of the TRU is not just about the Mako, it’s ultimately about the well-being of rugby in our local community. The success of the Mako franchise, which features many players originally from the region, motivates and creates a clear pathway for our young players to compete at an elite level,” he added.

Wayne Young, TRU’s Board Chairman said “NBS is a strong recognisable brand and we’re one of the largest sporting organisations in the region, providing rugby for boys and girls from a young age to senior rugby for men and women. It is a great community partnership. Without NBS, we just wouldn’t be able to deliver what we do at the grassroots of our game.”

“Our players spend a lot of time in the community – they’re terrific role models for young people and are admired for their humbleness as well as their ability,” he added.
